Hmong,
Mien, Lao Communities Against Gang Violence Task Force
The Task Force was created in December, 2005 to
address the problems of gang shootings, school truancy, and youth violence
that is a major concern for families and the community. In February, 2007, SAAC was selected as
the lead agency to administer a Planning Grant from The California Endowment
that will bring together community agencies, Hmong, Mien, and Lao community
leaders, and youth to develop a strategy to prevent violence and resolve
community and family issues that promote gangs. The Task Force is being facilitated by Michael Wong who has
successfully coordinated API community gang prevention programs in the Bay
area. Any interested community
person or group may attend our Task Force meetings, held on the second
Tuesday every month, 6 pm – 8 pm, at Hmong Women’s Heritage Association, 2251
Florin Rd, Suite 104. For more
information, please call Laura. 916. 421-1036.
